Mr. Jitender Sachdeva, speaking the seminar entitled “Nigeria and India: Leveraging on the Economies”, highlighted the increasing importance of the India-Nigeria trade relationship in bringing manufacturing excellence to Nigeria in the wake of declining oil prices globally. He also listed lack of maintenance and servicing as the bane of Nigeria’s power sector with a great number of power facilities lying idle. He noted that Skipper recognized this issue in Nigeria as an early-mover several years ago, when it established West Africa’s largest transformer repair and service facility in Ikorodu in Lagos, Nigeria. The state-of-the-art factory today services power equipment for Nigerian utilities as well as others from all over the African continent. He mentioned that the best solution for curbing immediate power crises in Nigeria involves bringing back such power equipment into smooth operations and Skipper is in a great position to help the country achieve the same.

Skipper Nigeria’s CSR day out at Victorine Home for Children Abuja

Skipper Nigeria Limited’s first CSR activity of the year involved Skipperites visiting Victorine Home for Children, an orphanage in Guarimpa, Abuja, Nigeria and spending a fun-day with orphans at the facility. This activity took on Saturday, 14th June 2014 and witnessed heavy participation from local Skipperites as well as Skipperites visiting from U.A.E.

Victorine Home for Children, an NGO based in Guarimpa, Abuja, is an initiative of the Sisters of Jesus the Redeemer. The home, The home provides shelter for children in difficulty, the marginalised and children of inmates who were delivered of their mothers in prisons. The aim of the home is to cater for the children till they are re-united with their families and take care of those children who cannot be re-united. The belief is that these children deserve the best and circumstances of their parenthood should not stop them from having the best in life. The Home also takes care of the children of the mentally challenged who don’t have the capacity of taking care of them.

Among many other activities, Skipperites sang and danced with the children, played games with them and donated books, toys and educational aids to the Home’s Learning Center. Food and beverages were also enjoyed by participants and extra supplies were contributed to the Home. As a special token of the event, Skipperites along with the children painted a blank canvas with their ideas and hand prints in many colours, giving all participants a unique sense of accomplishment and pride. The memory of this activity will be preserved by framing the resultant artwork which is proposed to be displayed at one of Skipper’s global offices. A plan has been prepared and sent to Corporate Headquarters for approval for adopting this orphanage on long term basis.
