Skipper Nigeria Limited’s first CSR activity of the year involved Skipperites visiting Victorine Home for Children, an orphanage in Guarimpa, Abuja, Nigeria and spending a fun-day with orphans at the facility. This activity took on Saturday, 14th June 2014 and witnessed heavy participation from local Skipperites as well as Skipperites visiting from U.A.E.
Victorine Home for Children, an NGO based in Guarimpa, Abuja, is an initiative of the Sisters of Jesus the Redeemer. The home, The home provides shelter for children in difficulty, the marginalised and children of inmates who were delivered of their mothers in prisons. The aim of the home is to cater for the children till they are re-united with their families and take care of those children who cannot be re-united. The belief is that these children deserve the best and circumstances of their parenthood should not stop them from having the best in life. The Home also takes care of the children of the mentally challenged who don’t have the capacity of taking care of them.
Among many other activities, Skipperites sang and danced with the children, played games with them and donated books, toys and educational aids to the Home’s Learning Center. Food and beverages were also enjoyed by participants and extra supplies were contributed to the Home. As a special token of the event, Skipperites along with the children painted a blank canvas with their ideas and hand prints in many colours, giving all participants a unique sense of accomplishment and pride. The memory of this activity will be preserved by framing the resultant artwork which is proposed to be displayed at one of Skipper’s global offices. A plan has been prepared and sent to Corporate Headquarters for approval for adopting this orphanage on long term basis.

The foundation laying ceremony of the 10 MW Tiga hydro electricity Power station project was conducted on 30th May, 2014 and performed by the former Head of State Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd). The event was presided over by Kano State Governor, His Excellency, Engr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso and the welcome address was given by Secretary to the State Government and Head of Civil Services of Kano, Hon. Engr. Dr. Rabi’u Sulaiman Bichi.
The ceremony was well attended by other dignitaries including Commissioners, Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, Hon. Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, district heads, permanent secretaries, and project implementation committee members.
HE The Governor commended the on-schedule work being done by Skipper and mentioned that the Tiga project will be completed in January 2015 and the second Independent Power Project at Challawa Gorge dam, generating 25MW power, will be completed in March, 2015. Both the projects, with a total capacity of 35MW, are being executed by Skipper t&d are the biggest in Northern Nigeria and one of the most capital intensive projects in recent times. On completion, the projects are estimated to transform the economy of the state.
In his address to the present gathering, Joint Group President, Skipper t & d, Mr. Pankaj Sachdeva explained the salient features of the project. Detailing Skipper’s active focus on safety, quality and environment, he mentioned that in order to ensure that the project meets world-class standards, experts such as Voith, Bangalore Hydro and AF consultants were selected for supply of major items, design and project monitoring. Mr. Sachdeva also spoke about Skipper’s readiness to deliver the Kano projects efficiently and on schedule.
Skipper celebrated its 28th year of success with Skipperites all over the world. The Annual Day was celebrated in all of Skipper’s regional headquarters, branch offices and project offices.
Skipper India celebrated its 28th Annual Day on the 24th of May, 2014. The 4-hour show was marked by performances by professional music bands as well as Skipper’s in-house talent. Dance performances by kids of Skipper employees left everyone enchanted and asking for more. A sumptuous dinner was followed by a dance party.
Skipper JLT Dubai and Skipper Middle East Sharjah employees enjoyed a beautiful soirée on a Dhow Cruise. Skipperites with their families witnessed a Tanoura Dance and a fun magic show while enjoying food and beverages as the boat sailed on the Dubai Creek.
Nigeria and Ghana-based Skipperites marked this special day with colour & style as families joined together for the cake cutting ceremony. Games, sharing of gifts, and a sumptuous dinner marked the night in the spirit of oneness.

Skipper successfully participated in the world’s largest and most well-known industrial fair, Hannover Messe, on 7-11 April this year at Hall 13, Stand D49.
This was the first time that Skipper joined as an exhibitor and showcased its products and services in this international arena. Skipper Electricals participated in the Middle East Electricity Exhibition 2014 (Sheikh Saeed Halls, Stand S1H49) which took place from 11th to 13th February at the Dubai World Trade Centre. Skipper is proud to be associated with Lagos State Electricity Board for its much lauded, innovative first edition of the Lagos State Power Kids Program, an energy awareness program initiated by Lagos State Government (LASG) as part of the Power sector development plan to help improve energy efficiency and conservation practice amongst its citizens. With Lagos State having the most aggressive energy development plan in Nigeria, it is imperative that students be taught about energy awareness and conservation practices. The program is heavily supported by His Excellency, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, the Governor of Lagos State.
As a special award to the winning Power King and in order to motivate Lagos school children to adopt and promote the cause of Energy Conservation, Skipper organized an all-expenses paid trip to Delhi, India and Dubai, UAE for the Power King, his teacher and an LSEB staff member.
